Multiple Victim Homicides, Mass Murders, and Homicide-Suicides as Domestic Violence Events

Author:April M. Zeoli, BWJP

This paper and related webinar cover how often multiple victim intimate partner homicides and homicide-suicides occur, the frequency of firearm use in these homicides, and opportunities for intervention.

Intimate partner homicides are generally discussed as events with a single homicide victim, but they often involve multiple homicide victims and even the offender’s suicide. These additional homicide victims are often the children of the targeted partner, though they can also be other family members, friends, or acquaintances. Sometimes the number of people killed in an intimate partner homicide event reaches four or more, making it a mass murder.
